Catholic Social Teaching ( CST) affirms that every person possesses equal dignity and that society must be organized around the common good. We see increasing evidence of the effect of climate crisis on everyone, but not equally. Often, those who have contributed least to global emissions and other pollutants suffer most from droughts, floods, food insecurity, displacement and environmental degradation. Faith communities have a unique responsibility to stand alongside vulnerable communities, amplify their voices, and advocate for policies that place human dignity above economic interests. Raising awareness of pollution sources and reducing their impact are faith-filled ways to promote CST in our daily lives. The Peace and Justice Ministry’s Care for Creation subcommittee is offering a book study the four Wednesdays in October in the parish hall on The Problem With Plastic by Judith Enck and Adam Mahoney. This well-reviewed book addresses “How we can save ourselves and our planet before it’s too late.” More information is available on the SignUpGenius, or contact Lori Fick at [email protected].
