Part 2 of Sarah Trent’s poem on the lessons of unmet expectations:
“Lord, I thought You would choose differently for me.” I thought You would spare this dream. I thought You would leave this cup untouched. I thought You would part this sea sooner. I thought You would rescue me before I became acquainted with this kind of grief. I thought You would choose differently.
But perhaps faith was never believing God would choose what I would choose. Perhaps faith is believing that even when I do not understand His choices, His heart toward me has not changed. Because the nails in His hands still say He loves me. The cross still says He is for me. The empty tomb still says that death and disappointment never get the final word.
There are mysteries I cannot solve. Rooms in God’s providence I cannot enter. Pages in the story that still make me weep when I read them. But I have learned something in the valley I could never have learned on the mountain: God can be trusted even when He chooses roads I never would have taken.
Even when He writes chapters I would have torn from the manuscript. Even when He remains silent where I begged Him to speak. Even then.
Because I am beginning to understand that God is not only the God of deliverance. Contact us at 314-578-0062 or [email protected]! Submitted by Andy Dapron
