I came forth from a yes When God said yes to me Everything that I would be And everything that I might be, or could be And every time I would imagine myself to be other than me – Me as God sees. God said yes. Just like God said yes to sun and moon and stars And the vast expanse of time To night and day, sea and land, To the breezes and the gales, Soft spring rain and hail, To friends warm and fuzzy and creepy crawly To Adam and Eve Cain and Abel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ruth and Esther, David and Saul, The prophets, The stable, the workshop, the mountaintop, Cross and tomb and three days waiting, waiting, To life completely new and unknown. God said yes to it all, And God says yes to me. And with every yes, God listens, Hoping that yes spoken out will engender yes in return. I know God has heard yes at least twice – On the lips of a young woman receiving a divine request. And from the anguished cry of a gasping Son. But surely every Thing finds its yes at least once. Sometime I think I hear the universe whisper it, or even scream it. Now God waits for my yes, Patiently, gently. And I struggle – What kind of galaxy might God birth in me, And am I ready for that light? Yes! No! But in that quiet encounter with the angel, Mary found her yes, And Jesus shouted yes through shallow breaths And if I am still, like them, with them. Maybe I’ll realize, that God still says yes, And I will say yes too, Or rather, I’ll remember, that I came forth from a yes. I am a yes. -Andy Dapron
